Rollercoasters

I don’t like rollercoasters. AT ALL.

When I was about 8 my uncle took me to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and convinced me to go on a small rollercoaster. He told me it would be a relaxing ride and I very naively believed him. (By that stage I should have really known better…

Truthfully, it was the smallest rollercoaster. I think it was also the oldest. Made out of wood and it creaked a lot. It still runs to this day.

My aunt has told me that when I came back I was green. I remember being terrified. I haven’t set foot on another rollercoaster since and nothing will ever tempt me to do so again.*

Despite this, I had a blast years later in Orlando and went of all sorts of high adrenaline rides at Universal & Disney – just no rollercoasters.

The point of this is that my emotional rollercoaster has started an uphill climb because, apparently, I am now going to Las Vegas. Let’s hope there aren’t any big dips up ahead ;-)

See you in 2 ½ weeks when normal blogging will resume.

*ok some things might but they will not happen…

sh#t happens…

aka Bye Bye Vegas.

Sometimes all the best laid plans go out the window, sometimes stuff just happens and you have to redo everything. When this happens to me in writing, I take a step back, do something else, annoy my fellow writers with questions and then see if this new development can actually work in the story.

Unfortunately it’s not my writing that has a spanner in the works it’s my life. After 5 days of drama, stress and very little sleep, I’ve settled into a routine of going to work, going to hospital, remembering to eat and trying to sleep before repeating that process. My mobile (cellphone?) is glued to my side and I check it every 10 minutes all the while praying it doesn’t ring again.

In light of this, doing a blog about Magic Moon is a bit too ironically surreal given it was that book series was my companion through my parent’s death.

For now I’m putting my blog-plan on the back burner and will come back to it as and when.

As most of you know I’ve been getting very excited about my Las Vegas trip which I should be leaving on in 12 days. That’s looking rather unlikely now. In the scheme of things it’s not important, the city won’t disappear and the shows will be there when we do decide to go. That is with the exception of SYTYCD, I won’t lie it missing out on that hurts, but hey sh#t happens…

In 3s

There is this saying that be it good or bad, things tend to come in 3. That might be because people automatically try and group things in 3s, I know I do. This time, happily my 3s were all good. :D

  1. I returned to work today* to find out I had won £100 in the company lottery pot. Hurray! It’s paying for my friend and my SYTYCD ticket in Vegas. I’ve been grinning at my desk for most of today.
  2. I found an extra 10Euros in my holiday wallet which has gone straight into my book fund. Now that I now don’t have to save the money for my SYTYCD ticket I can add those funds as well. I am going to go absolutely book buying mad… 20? Hah, I think 30 should be my new minimum target.
  3. I’m getting addicted to Twitter of late** and had #fangirl moment when Robin McKinley re-tweeted my comment about Sunshine. Which was that it’s something guaranteed to make me feel better, along with chocolate and Supernatural.

Finally, one of the many reasons I love dance

*I was off sick, which is not good but I’m better now.

**I resisted so long…

I’m going to boot camp…

…apparently, judging by my writing buddies latest blog. I thought I was going on holiday? What a foolish notion. *lol*

It’s all good though, I’m actually looking forward to it. It was her that started me off on my WIP the last time I visited, only it was writing exercises then. I still have them, see below -

“Tea?”

Sarah looked at the girl in disbelieve.

“Tea? You’ve hunted me for weeks, beaten the crap out of me and just dragged me out of my bedroom window and now you want me to have tea with you?!”

The girl just smiled and poured herself a cup, taking a seat opposite Sarah she winked and said:

“It’s never to late to start being civil.”

Sarah snorted.

“You know we aren’t that different, you and me.”

“Really?”

Sarah laced her question with sarcasm.

“Apart from the fact that I don’t chase innocent people into a deserted park or kidnap them.”

The girl sighed and opened the drawer in the cupboard behind her, taking out a brown folder she placed it in front of Sarah and opened it. There was her name, Sarah Owen, 17 years old, pisces… the notes carried on from there.

“What is this?”

“You. Shall I read?”

The girl pulled the folder towards her and lifted the first few pages.

Of course the story has changed a lot since then. It’s still evolving now, but that was the day that the name Sarah first appeared.

So boot camp eh? Well like Marieke said, I’m going to be crit-ing Ysolde while I’m there* and she’ll be helping me in my WIP. Which should have the first draft finished by then, I have 2 chapters and an epilogue left and another 3 weekends to do it in. No problem. ;-)

So since I couldn’t possibly fit everything into the comment section, here’s my reply m’dear:

This may or may not include vicious critiques, Yes chronic comma confusion, That would be you, I’m staying away from comma’s cocktails at the Hard Rock, Check veggie burgers at the same Hard Rock, Double check flirting with waiters,That was you not me. It didn’t get us served quicker though, you should practise more ;-) 1k1hr, oho… I’m worried youtube vids, That be me Doctor Who overload, Check, check, check, Torchwood too please cheesy films And some truly awful ones *wink* and tea. Yep, stocks are running low! Oh. And books. Possibly. Book buying may or may not occur. *g* Like the sun might possibly rise and set… right?

.

So before I go back to writing I just quickly wanted to share this –

And yay for Jackson Pearce also loving SYTYCD, I knew YA author’s were the best. :D

*I so can’t wait to read it. It looks ace.

I’m going to Vegas!

I have made various attempts at screaming this and jumping around celebrating. I confess I’ve been unsuccessful in both. I can’t scream – occasionally I squeak but that’s as close as I get. Also, the carefully arranged pathways around my furniture, do not give sufficient room for bouncing. I could go outside but my neighbours think I’m peculiar enough as it is…

Anyway, back to Vegas and dance*
Yep dance, I’m going to Vegas for the shows, not to gamble. Though if a slot machine wants to give me the big cash prize I’ll happily except and invest it wisely in book cases and maybe fixing my shelf.

In the quirky unexpected ways things happen, one of the things I’m most excited about is going to see the So You think You Can Dance Tour,** which we will be trying to book tickets for this Friday. Fingers crossed for that!

Ever since we decided on this I’ve gone Kent Kent Kent whenever something at work has gone wrong. I tried So You think You Can Dance So You think You Can Dance So You think You Can Dance, but it doesn’t trip of the tongue that easily so I’m sticking to Kent Kent Kent.*** :D

These thoughts along with planning various Cirque De Soleil visits is keeping me very happy. It’s only 104 days or 2496 hours (approx) to go, not that I’m counting… not at all. :-P

Anyway, BIG NEWS – my first spoiler teaser is coming out next week so be sure to stop by.

*did I mention how much I love dance? ;-)

** I want to say it’s in Vegas when we were going but it’s not quite true, we did rearrange the trip so we could make the show.
No I’m not kidding, my friend (not writing buddy) and I flew all the way to Philadelphia for 4 days to see the Dancing with the Stars Tour. I still have the program, signed by the cast (that’s another long story) :-)

*** it conjures up the same happy thoughts. I am considering alternating on a weekly basis with the other dancers…

Inspiring…

Inspiration is important, not just for writing but for everything*

One of the things that inspires me a lot is dance** and while I tend to avoid reality shows like the plague, if it involves dance I’m there. So be SCD, DWTS or SYTYCD*** (or many of the others) you can guarantee me sitting on the sofa with my jaw dropping at the truly amazing things these people can do.

Alex Wong is was one of the competitors of season 7 of SYTYCD, sadly he had to pull out of the show due to inquiry but before he left he made me forget how to breath a couple of times.

Thank you!

* At least I think so :-)

** I’ll talk about dance a lot. It’s one of my great .
